Adam

This carving is from a pair of similar figures found in Carlisle Cathedral, depicting Adam and Eve. This piece shows Adam seated, naked, in a classic Romanesque style inspired by the rivers Tigris and Euphrates, symbols of life. Originally carved in Antwerp, Belgium (1559 AD) for a local church, these carvings somehow made their way to Carlisle Cathedral.
