This hand-crafted Medieval reproduction is taken from an original mid-14th-century carving found on the richly decorated misericords within the choir stalls of Ely Cathedral. Cast from a mould made directly from the original carving, the piece captures the intricate detail and expressive character of the medieval work.
This striking variation of the Green Man presents the figure as a human skull encircled by foliage - an unusual and powerful interpretation of the pagan symbol. While the Green Man traditionally represents renewal and the eternal cycle of life, this depiction confronts mortality directly, uniting death and rebirth within a single image. Such symbolism would have held particular resonance in the medieval world, where life was uncertain and the presence of death ever near.
Cast in a high-quality resin composite and carefully hand-stained to evoke the appearance of aged wood, this reproduction faithfully retains the craftsmanship and fine detail of the original carving.
Designed for wall mounting, this compelling artefact forms a dramatic focal point, whether displayed alone or alongside other pieces in the collection. Supplied complete with a hanging fixture and product label.
