This hand-crafted reproduction is taken from a medieval (c.1340) carving found on the misericords and supports of the choir stalls at Lancaster Priory. These carvings are among the oldest surviving church carvings in England, originally considered some of the finest of their time. Many were unfortunately damaged during the English Civil War in the 17th century.
This piece, known as “Jesus,” is thought to be a portrait of an individual, possibly a caricature of one of the monks or carvers, rather than a depiction of Christ.
Carefully cast from a mould of the original, this reproduction preserves all the fine detail and character of the medieval work. Designed for wall mounting, it comes with a hanging fixture and product label.
