This giclée print captures a peaceful winter scene along the River Dee in Chester, featuring The Groves promenade and the historic Old Dee Bridge, lightly dusted with snow. Taken from below the Roman Amphitheatre, the view offers a tranquil glimpse into one of the city’s most beloved riverside spots.
The Groves, established in the 1700s, became a fashionable promenade after a line of trees was planted in 1726. Today, it's a favourite place for riverside walks, enjoying ice cream from the red huts (seen to the right in the image), or setting off on a boat trip down the Dee.
In the background stands the Old Dee Bridge—Chester’s oldest surviving bridge—built around 1357 from red sandstone. Its seven arches once spanned the leat feeding the now-demolished Dee Mills.
